Anti-Counterfeiting Training in Poiana Brașov: TURCU & TURCU’s Active Involvement in Training Law Enforcement Authorities

On December 4, in Poiana Brașov, our colleague Gabriel Turcu had the opportunity of moderating a panel discussion between representatives of the private sector — Juliana Fucs from PUMA, and Mihaela Stancu and Andrei Moșescu from Procter & Gamble — and police officers from all counties across Romania with responsibilities in investigating intellectual property crimes.

The meeting took place during a training program organized by the U.S. Department of Justice, and the conversation was as relaxed as it was focused and professional.

Both sides had the opportunity to exchange expectations, share experiences, and discuss best practices developed through various cases and circumstances.

Both PUMA and Procter & Gamble remain, for any IP lawyer, models of excellence — companies represented by some of the most professional and dedicated teams in the field of intellectual property protection and anti-counterfeiting enforcement.

On December 5, the workshop continued with a practical training seminar delivered by our law firm for the participants of the Poiana Brașov session. Representatives of the participating companies and our office team had the opportunity to explore the essential aspects of identifying intellectual property rights, understanding each company’s portfolio, and learning about their specific protection mechanisms.

For the first time in such a workshop, police representatives also met with experts from the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights (EUIPO), Anthony Manuguerra and Veronica Peral Serrano, who presented the training and support opportunities that the Observatory can offer to Romanian enforcement authorities.

Although these resources are not yet widely known, participants were pleasantly surprised to discover that the Observatory provides practical and technical tools to assist police and customs investigations — including the IPEP platform, with its database, applications, and other specialized features.

Many thanks to Anthony Manuguerra and Veronica Peral Serrano, from the European Observatory, for this first and substantial collaboration in our training and workshop projects.
