Celebrating World Intellectual Property Day 2025 in Bucharest: Creativity, Legal Protection, and the Beat of Innovation

On May 12th, Turcu & Turcu had the honor of co-organizing the 2025 edition of World Intellectual Property Day in Bucharest, alongside the Romanian Copyright Office (ORDA) and InfoCons. The event was hosted at the Bucharest Court of Appeal, bringing together influential figures from the legal, creative, and public policy sectors to explore the evolving role of intellectual property in contemporary society.

This year’s international theme, “Music and IP: Feel the Beat of IP!”, provided an ideal framework to reflect on the intersection between creativity and legal protection. It also underscored the importance of intellectual property rights in sustaining cultural expression, innovation, and economic development.

A Day of Dialogue and Artistic Expression

Gabriel N. Turcu, Managing Partner at Turcu & Turcu, moderated one of the day’s key sessions, which focused on the legal and ethical frameworks that shape IP protection in the cultural industries. The discussion brought to light the real-world implications of copyright law for musicians, composers, performers, and those who support the creative ecosystem.

Beyond legal panels and institutional insights, the event featured live artistic moments—music performances that reminded participants why intellectual property matters. These performances embodied the central message of the day: intellectual property is not merely a set of regulations; it is a system designed to empower and protect the people behind every original work.

Advocating for Creative Rights and Legal Awareness

The event emphasized the urgent need to raise public awareness around intellectual property rights and to foster collaboration between institutions, rights holders, and legal practitioners. As global technological advancements continue to reshape how creative works are produced and distributed, strong and adaptive IP frameworks become more essential than ever.

Turcu & Turcu remains committed to supporting initiatives that defend and promote intellectual property rights, not only through legal representation, but also by fostering educational dialogue and industry cooperation.

Looking Forward

We are grateful to our partners ORDA and InfoCons for their collaboration and to all speakers, artists, and attendees who joined us in celebrating this year’s World IP Day. Together, we reaffirmed a simple truth: behind every melody, every innovation, and every creative endeavor stands a legal structure that enables ideas to thrive.
